Opening your Doors

For a congregation that is already an important part of their community before a disaster happens, it can be a major help to your community to be open and available in time of disaster.

Some ways that you can serve your community:

  • Extending pre-existing congregational social ministries to help individuals and families affected by the disaster (e.g. food pantry, clothes closet, etc.)
  • Providing hospitality to outside volunteers who arrive to help the wider community.
  • Opening church buildings as a shelter, meeting place, or storage for disaster response organizations.
