Get a Kit
National Preparedness Month

When preparing for a possible emergency situation, it's best to think first about the basics of survival: fresh water, food, clean air and warmth. Assemble these in a kit to have on hand in case disaster strikes in your community. When you have created a kit for you and your household, see if any of your neighbors need help assembling their kits.

Download the list of recommended items so that you can use it as a checklist as you put together your kit.  Be sure to use a water-tight container to store the items for your kit so that they will be easily transportable and will keep longer.  Also, remember to check your kit once a year to replace outdated food, water, or prescriptions, and check batteries in radios and flashlights.

Once you have put your kit together, consider putting another kit together for a household that might not be able to afford all of the necessary items.  Or consider doing a "ReadyKit" drive at your church or in your neighborhood, to help make sure that everyone is ready.
