Flood Response

In response to the 2008 Midwest flooding, volunteers are being coordinated by various organizations.  Volunteers will also be needed in response to the 2009 floods, and information will be posted here as it becomes available.

North Dakota - Volunteers are needed throughout the Red River Valley and across the entire state of North Dakota, following serious spring flooding there.  For more information, please click here.

Iowa - Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, a national partner of Lutheran Disaster Response, specializes in providing housing and hospitality for volunteers of all denominations and faiths.  If you are interested in doing clean-up work in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, you can stay at one of four Presbyterian churches in the affected area for only $5 a night.  Click here to register through the PDA Web site, or call Penny Noel at 866-732-6121.  And remember -- even when you volunteer with another organization, you are still a Lutheran volunteer.  Click here to order your LDR Volunteer Gear!

Elsewhere, some local municipalities are hosting groups of volunteers as long as they are 100% self-sustaining. The most urgent need continues to be financial donations.  To give, click here.
